Anna Thomsen L.Ac.

Anna Thomsen L.Ac. earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition from UC Davis in 1980, and worked as a research and medical technologist in preventive medicine at the UC Davis Department of Epidemiology for four years. Thereafter, Anna attended the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine until becoming pregnant with her daughter, Laurel, inspiring her to make a switch from animal medicine to human medicine.

In 1987, Anna Thomsen graduated from the Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, California as a Licensed Acupuncturist and primary care provider in the State of California. Anna has completed graduate studies in Chinese Medical Theory, Acupuncture (both Chinese and Japanese), Herbology, and Dietetics.

For over 35 years, Anna has been integrating her knowledge and application of Oriental Medicine and Herbology with Functional Medicine, Nutrition, and Clinical Kinesiology to holistically treat organ system imbalances, women's hormonal health issues, children's health issues, respiratory and digestive diseases, heart disease and diabetes, muscular-skeletal pain, allergies, skin diseases, headaches, and autoimmune diseases. Passionate and determined, armed with an acute scientific mind yet also an astonishing gift for intuition, Anna is committed to helping her patients achieve balance, and leaves no stone unturned.

Anna has had extensive experience treating chronic illness, particularly helping to support cancer patients being treated with allopathic medicine. Using functional medicine/laboratory testing, Anna has also helped support patients struggling to maintain a healthy weight by identifying hormonal and metabolic imbalances. To help patients struggling with pain, Anna enhances her acupuncture with structural bodywork, utilizing Osteopathic methods such as SOT (Sacral-Occipital technique) and Ortho-Bionomy, helping to relieving Sciatica, low back, hip, neck, and joint pain, neuralgias, Plantar Fasciitis, and other neuromuscular related illnesses.

While the body is one important facet of health, Anna also recognizes the importance of the mind, emotions, and spirit, counseling patients with depression, anxiety, and panic attacks using a combination of Neuro-Emotional Technique, acupuncture, Medical Intuition, and nutrition to help give them an alternative to drug therapy. She has also helped countless patients with prescription drug addiction, wean off their medications by substituting herbal and nutritional supplements, and lifestyle changes to help the patient's body and mind achieve a sense of renewed balance.
